KBIC has grown to become one of the largest biomedical clusters in Japan, consisting of corporations and organizations including large pharmaceutical firms, small-and-medium-sized businesses and venture companies as of . With the progress of the cluster, the number of employees has also increased to about 8,100 as of June 2016. According to the calculation by Nomura Research Institute, the positive economic growth that KBIC brought to Kobe City was 40.9 billion yen in 2005, which increased 2.5 times to 104.4 billion yen by 2010 and 161.5 billion yen by 2015. An estimate shows that the tax income of Kobe City was accordingly increased by the economic growth to 5.6 billion yen in 2015.
